Samurai Shibata Shurinosuke Katsuie by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861), master of ukiyo-e style of Japanese woodblock prints. Shibata is depicted destroying his own troops' water vessel, an act he indeed carried out to focus his warrior's spirits in a successful battle. Above the samurai's left shoulder is his personal standard, decorated with paper streamers.
